Would their areas still be the same, or would they be different?

In this case, students should not be pressed to explain why the areas are still the same. Doing so formally would involve concepts such as three-dimensional coordinates or the nature of parallel lines, and would stray from the goal of getting students to describe solid shapes in terms of their cross-sections.
